The Missing Piece

A few weeks ago I was listening to a podcast with Chris Williamson and Cameron Hanes.

Chris said something that has stuck with me. I’ve obsessed over it and thought about it every day since.

“Give a man a purpose and the ability to achieve it and he will crawl over broken glass with a smile”

A man’s purpose is his greatest weapon and a lack of purpose is his greatest downfall.

Without a greater mission to strive toward, a man feels lost, anxious, and depressed.

He feels useless.

He can still make progress in whatever he’s working on, but that progress isn’t fulfilling or satisfying.

The perfect example is a stereotypical corporate CEO.

He makes progress, climbing the corporate ladder. Yet he hates his life and feels incomplete.

If you’re clueless about what your mission is (as so many are), everything you do will lack quality, work ethic, discipline, and drive.

You can give 50, 60, or 70% of your true potential in these areas without a purpose. But you are still capped, you still have more to give.

And if you want to be great, reach your potential, and achieve Self-Mastery, you have to give everything.

You have to go all in.

Be misunderstood. Be obsessive. Give your all.

“Until a man selects his definite purpose in life, he dissipates his energies and spreads his thoughts over so many subjects and in so many different directions that they lead not to power but to indecision & weakness”

- Napoleon Hill

Whether you are religious or not, you are on this planet one time.

You are not here to squander this opportunity.

You are not here to be average.

You are not here to feel anxious and depressed.

You are not here to live in fear of being judged.

You are not here to waste your life.

You are on this planet to find your mission.

You are on this planet to do great things, reach your potential and achieve Self-Mastery.

And I get it, when you don’t know your mission (as I didn’t for so long), the idea of finding it is scary.

It’s daunting.

You feel so lost right now that even the idea of having clarity and direction strikes fear in your heart.

You have no idea where to start. How to find it. How to even look it's way.

But, my friend, you are at a pivot point.

Not just now, but at any moment.

Every moment is a moment to make a change, improve, and progress.

Man’s Greatest Weapon

This can be hard to imagine when you aren’t aware of your purpose.

But once discovered, every area of your life levels up.

You feel high on life.

You wake up with a continuing sense of drive that is unimaginable to most.

You automatically cut out the crap from your life. Cheap dopamine. Bad habits. Freeloaders. Shiny objects.

It doesn’t align with you and where you want to go, it gets removed.

Your mission becomes everything and you see everything you do in life as a way to contribute toward it.

No man's mission is the same as another so you end up running your own race.

A race that you can’t lose and can only win.

But on that race, other like-minded, mission-driven, badass motherf*ckers will tag along.

They’ll be running their race, right beside you. Pushing you. Motivating you. Inspiring you. Helping you.

And you will do the same to you.

Because the best way to network is to do something great and share it with the world.

In the end, there is only one answer to a fulfilling life.

And that is to make progress in your mission.

Mission Discovery

There is a lot of confusion as to how you can find your purpose.

Some people say you don’t find it, you create it.

Some people say not everyone has a mission.

I disagree with both.

In my experience, you discover your purpose and everyone has one.

Very, very rarely does anyone uncover the purpose on accident. Which explains why most people never discover it.

They don’t go through the process required.

It’s like an archeologist who sits in their lab and wonders why they never discover any new chambers in the pyramids or crashed alien spacecraft in Antarctica.

Now, let’s cut the sh*t and get down to action.

Here is the exact process you need to follow to discover your mission.

I will make a quick disclaimer: this is not an overnight process. You will not discover your purpose after 1 week of doing this. It might take 6 months, it might take 6 years.

This is only for those who are obsessed with being great and achieving Self-Mastery.

Those who are willing to put in the work.

So if that’s you, follow these steps:

Life Tapping + Conscious Alignment

First, you need to decide what you want with your life.

Not what your parents want for you, not what society wants for you, what YOU want.

I call this life tapping.

It involves you going deep and journaling about:

  • Your Utopia

Write about the dream version of every area of your life. From habits, to daily routines, and work, to your partner and any other area you can think of.

Be meticulously detailed about what you want in your life.

  • Your Nether

This is your anti-vision. Write about the worst possible version of every area of your life. From habits, daily routines, and work, to your partner and any other area you can think of.

Be meticulously detailed about what you DON’T want in your life.

Once you’ve done your life tapping, you need consciously align your life with this Utopia.

  • Craft goals that align with your Utopia

  • Build a self-image of your ideal self. The person who would easily accomplish those goals and live your Utopia.

  • With every action you take and every decision you make, ask yourself if it aligns with your Utopia, goals and self-image. If it doesn’t, don’t do it.

Follow your genuine curiosities

What are you interested in?

What do you find yourself researching, googling, watching Youtube videos about, and reading books about?

Whatever it is, find a curiosity you have, an interest, and follow it.

Read more books, google questions you have, buy courses, watch Youtube videos or podcasts and follow this curiosity.

Build out a project related to that curiosity

By following your curiosity in step 2, you will expand your knowledge base in that area

But knowledge is useless if it’s not applied.

So started building out a project related to that curiosity.

That project can be anything. From creating content to building a business to creating a presentation.

It doesn’t matter.

What matters is that you apply the information and take action. This will allow you to connect dots, form your own ideas, and find out what you like and don’t like about that area.

Do more of what you enjoy

As you expand your knowledge base (Step 2) and skill base (step 3), you will find there are certain areas or connections you enjoy more.

Follow them, lean into them, and shift your focus.

Keep doing this. Keep doing more of what lights you on fire

Do less of what you don’t enjoy

Just as you discover what you enjoy, you’ll find certain areas you don’t.

They don’t do anything for you. They don’t inspire you or light you on fire.

Do less of them. Shift your focus away from these areas and toward what you enjoy.

Repeat

If you keep doing this

If you regularly review your Utopia, Nether, Goals, and Self-Image

If you keep following your curiosities and building out a project related to them, doing more of what you enjoy and less of what you don’t.

Eventually, your mission will be discovered.

This might take 6 months. This might take 10 years.

But it will work.

And it only works if you do all of the steps.

You can’t follow your curiosity but not take any action.

You can’t take action and build out a project without consciously aligning your life.

If you do, this won’t work.

Every step plays a vital part.

Every step stacks on top of another to help guide you.

This is an iterative, long-term process. But most importantly, it’s one that will change your life.
